A cheek filler is a dermal filler that’s injected along the cheek bone and into targeted surrounding areas to create definition as well as lift.

The most common fillers used for cheek enhancement are made of hyaluronic acid, a gel like substance that naturally exists in your body.

what does cheek filler involve?

• Local anaesthetic cream is applied. The cheek filler also contains local anaesthetic to further minimise discomfort.

• The dermal filler is injected using a very fine needle or a blunt instrument (cannula). There will be a reason for choosing a technique and this is determined by your desired outcome and by your anatomy.

I aim to keep injection sites to an absolute minimum which will result in less trauma, swelling and bruising.

Treatment time is 30 – 45 minutes.

Dermal fillers are a medical procedure and do carry some risk.

Injection risks include slight redness, swelling, lumps/bumps, bruising, skin discolouration, pain and tenderness.

Cheek filler related risks include:

• Allergic reactions.

• Persistent pain.

• Granuloma (nodule accompanied by inflammation).

• Infection.

• Vascular side effects, the most severe complications occur if the filler is injected into a facial blood vessel. When this happens, patients can suffer tissue loss or blindness due to central retinal artery occlusion (very rare).

Reactions may be immediate or delayed in onset.

how long do results last?

Up to 24 months.

But the answer is more complicated than most patients think. It can depend on:

• Which dermal filler is used, it’s consistency and the volume injected.

• Your age, health and lifestyle.

• Variations in the speed at which the body metabolises fillers.

Longevity of results will be discussed at your consultation.

Regular maintenance treatments will be required for the results to be maintained.  

what to expect after treatment

Results are evident immediately, but it will take 2 to 3 weeks to see the full results as it takes time for the dermal filler to settle and integrate with your skin.

You may have some swelling, bruising, and redness. These effects usually improve after 48 to 72 hours.

Downtime is minimal however do consider that bruising can persist for 7-10 days and pre plan treatment prior to any important social engagements.

You’ll be given verbal and written aftercare instructions.
