i have hollow temples, is temple filler for me?

Hollow temples are an area often overlooked by both patients and practitioners.

Temple hollows are concave hollows on either side of the head where the temples lie.

Hollow temples can simply be due to genetics and facial bone structure, but many people experience a hollowing with age.

Temple hollowing is typically due to the loss of volume, fat or muscle in the area. If the concavity is significant it disrupts the overall appearance of the face.

A hollow temple contributes to a bean-like shaped face and often a lower sitting eyebrow due to loss of structural support above it.

what does treatment involve?

Following a careful consultation and examination treatment will involve:

• Pre treatment photographs to track your results.

• The application of local anaesthetic. The dermal fillers also contain local anaesthetic to further reduce discomfort.

• The dermal filler is injected using a fine needle.

With each treatment I will keep injection sites to an absolute minimum which will in turn result in less trauma, swelling and bruising.

Treatment time is approximately 30 minutes.

are there any risks?

Dermal fillers are a medical procedure and therefore carry some risk.

• Bruising.

• Allergic reactions.

• Headaches are common after temple filler but are short lived. Panadol should be taken to treat these.

• Swelling in the injection area will occur. This will last for approximately 48 hours.

• Asymmetry: Sometimes one side is better treated than the other, this is usually because the patient is asymmetrical to start with.

• Infection is a very rare complication, but always a possibility when the needle goes into the skin.

• Necrosis (blood vessel being blocked, interfering with blood supply to the skin) is very rare. This could lead to scarring.

• Blindness (although it is extremely rare).

how long do results last?

Approximately 12-18 months.

But the answer is more complicated than most patients think. It can depend on;

• Which dermal filler is used, it’s consistency and the volume injected.

• Your age, health and lifestyle

• Variations in the speed at which the body metabolises fillers

Longevity of results will be discussed at your consultation.

It is important to keep in mind that regularly scheduled maintenance treatments will be required for the results to be maintained.  

what to expect after treatment

The area temples will look fuller right away. However, it can take 2 to 3 weeks to see the full results as it takes time for the dermal filler to settle and integrate with your skin.

You may have some swelling, bruising, and redness. These effects usually improve after 48 to 72 hours.

Being a minimally invasive treatment downtime is minimal however do consider that bruising can persist for 7-10 days and pre plan treatment prior to any important social events.

You’ll be given verbal and written aftercare instructions.

Your satisfaction is paramount therefore a review appointment will be arranged 3 weeks following your dermal filler.
