Under eye filler, often referred to as tear trough filler, can refresh your appearance if the delicate area under your eyes appears hollow and dark in colour. This can make you appear tired when you’re actually not.

Age is a major contributing factor as the face starts to lose volume. This natural loss of volume affects the fat pads and the bones. This important loss of support to the mid face can slowly reveal a tear trough.

Your genetics also play a role and can increase the likelihood of under eye hollows.

Depleted facial fat from weight loss can also create under eye hollows.

what does under eye filler treatment involve?

I love a good tear trough enhancement and it shows as it’s one of the most requested treatments at my Perth cosmetic clinic.

Treatment of the tear trough will vary from person to person. Following a careful examination of your under eye area your individual treatment plan will be created and discussed.

• Local anaesthetic cream is applied. The dermal fillers also contain local anaesthetic to further reduce discomfort.

• The under eye filler may be injected using a fine needle or a blunt instrument (cannula).

With each treatment I will keep injection sites to an absolute minimum which will in turn result in less trauma, swelling and bruising.

Under Eye Filler Treatment time is 30-45 minutes.

Is tear trough filler safe?

Dermal fillers are a medical procedure and therefore carry some risk.

Injection risks include slight redness, swelling, lumps/bumps, bruising, skin discolouration, pain and tenderness.

Tear trough filler related risks include;

• Allergic reactions

• Persistent pain

• Oedema (swelling) around the eye

• Filler forming into lumps

• Granuloma

• Infection

• Vascular side effects

• Permanent blindness due to central retinal artery occlusion (very rare)

Reactions may be immediate or delayed in onset.

how long do results last?

Approximately 12 months.

But the answer is more complicated than most patients think. It can depend on;

• Which dermal filler is used, it’s consistency and the volume injected.

• Your age, health and lifestyle.

• Variations in the speed at which the body metabolises fillers.

Longevity of under eye filler results will be discussed at your consultation.

It is important to keep in mind that regularly scheduled maintenance treatments will be required for the results to be maintained.  

what to expect after treatment

Results are immediate, however it will take 2 to 3 weeks to see the full effects as the dermal filler needs to settle and integrate with your skin.

You may have some swelling, bruising, and redness that will improve after 48 to 72 hours.

Being a minimally invasive treatment downtime is minimal however do consider that bruising can persist for 7-10 days and pre plan treatment prior to any important social events.

You’ll be given verbal and written aftercare instructions.

Your satisfaction is paramount therefore a review appointment will be arranged 3 weeks following your dermal filler.
